 2001年，李二毛，一个20岁的农民工，在夜总会找到了一份反串表演的工作，为了赚更多的钱，他开始打激素和做整容手术来改变自己变成一个真正的女人。她渴望家庭，找过三个老公，但多次恋爱多次受骗，自杀过几次……在欢场混迹多年，李二毛逐渐染上吸毒和酗酒的毛病，期望多年的变性手术也一直未能如愿，生活日益穷困。 2011年，李二毛被撵出出租屋，流落街头，不得已携着新男友两手空空地溜回四川老家。自十三岁就离开故乡，李二毛不只要面对眼光一样的乡亲，这些年来，家中的农田和宅基地都被村干部霸占去了。
