　　1965年，在明家豪华的大厅中，明家夫妻举行七周年结婚纪念晚会，并亮出他们结婚七周年的纪念品，名叫“蓝色火焰”的钻石项链。散会时，两名中年侍者阿九和陈天洋盗取“蓝色火焰”，并放火烧毁明家巨宅，明家夫妻葬身火海，他们三岁的儿子明亮成为孤儿，幸得远亲明车水相助，把明亮带回新加坡抚育长大。明亮长大后，精明强干，在消防局任小队长。一日，富家千金江水灵为救在屋顶的狗虚火警，明亮发现被骗，命令收队。江水灵写投拆信给明亮的上司，明亮与水灵终起冲突。
