　　本剧是一部由USA电视网出品的双男主喜剧，讲述了“一黑一白”两名警探搭档破案的故事。韦斯（沃伦·科尔 Warren Kole 饰）和特维斯（迈克尔·伊雷 Michael Ealy 饰）是洛杉矶警署最优秀的两名警探，他们已经搭档5年。韦斯为人沉稳，却因自身工作关系导致和妻子亚力克丝离婚，而特维斯生性活泼，平素喜欢勾搭女性。他们这支“黑白组合”破案率虽高，但是彼此之间常常发生争执。而这种斗嘴无疑影响了他们的案件调查工作，在一次调查中，他们又一次因为发生争执而影响了办案，于是双双被上级停职。警长要求他们去参加心理专家瑞安（索尼亚·瓦格尔 Sonya Walger 饰）专门为情侣和夫妻开设的辅导。
　　城里每日都会发生大大小小的事件，这对搭档忙着处理案件的同时，也要顾着去参加瑞安医生的辅导。而那些共同法则，能帮助他们改善彼此之间的关系吗？

　　这部剧集是上世纪九十年代最流行的情景喜剧《Seinfeld》的主创之一拉里·大卫(Larry meijubar.net David)自编自演，根据他在洛杉矶影艺圈的生活创造的喜剧。他把《Seinfeld》的风格推向极端化。HBO因是有线电视所以不需要很大的观众圈，所以HBO上的剧集常常风格独具。《抑制热情》显得特别生活化，很是写意，有很多现场发挥，刚开始播时观众圈不大，之后开始名声见长。拉里·大卫凭此剧获艾美奖2000年度喜剧类剧集最佳男主角提名。
　　本剧是根据拉里-大卫当初在洛杉矶演艺圈的亲身经历改变而成，并由大卫自编自演而成的喜剧。把《Seinfeld》的风格推向了极端化。通过《抑制热情》让观众看到了大卫的正直、大方和谦虚，这位创作大师通过HBO带给观众无数的欢笑。而剧情游弋在真实与虚构之间，大卫和演员们把真实的洛杉矶生活呈现在银幕上，就仿佛有一架摄影机，随时把那真实的经历实况转播给观众一样。更重要的是，本剧本身是没有剧本的，往往依靠演员们的即兴表演赋予演出进度和新鲜感。而这造就了本剧的变幻莫测和与众不同。

　　在一场婚礼上，Jimmy（克里斯·吉尔 Chris Geere 饰）被扫地出门，狼狈之时，他遇到了一个漂亮的女孩Gretchen（阿雅·卡什 Aya Cash 饰）。但这绝不是传统意义上的浪漫相遇，Jimmy自私毒舌，Gretchen不羁浪荡，一个是卖不出书的过气作家，为人刻薄，在前女友婚礼上捣乱报复；一个是管理着一支乐队的经纪人，小毛病坏习惯一堆，私生活一塌糊涂。他们都不认真对待男女关系，都不想开始长久的感情。然而，以为绝不会再爱上别人的Jimmy和Gretchen，在一夜情之后，二人关系朝着他们无法控制的局面发生变化。
　　另外，故事还围绕着Jimmy的室友以及Gretchen的闺蜜展开，四个人都充满了缺憾和烦恼，他们各有各的生活要面对，但命运将他们紧紧联系在一起。

When they arrive at the hotel, the Latvian ambassador who is also staying there is killed. Monk saw the killer but only his ear. So he tries to help the NYPD solve the case hoping they will help them find the man. When Monk goes downtown, he gets lost and gets swept up in all the chaos.
