 John is a repressed man who is shocked to find himself in middle age, secretly raging at his life as a stay-at-home dad. When his failure to intervene in a violent confrontation in a playground brings his identity crisis to a head, John ups and moves his family to the rural idyll of Coldwater, as far away from London as possible. Upon arrival, John is quickly befriended by next-door neighbour Tommy, a charming, confident man, devoted husband to the local vicar Rebecca. He is a man of faith, a pillar of the community and self-appointed leader of the village’s all-male book group. John is both impressed and slightly fascinated by Tommy. His wife Fiona despises him. As a successful former chef hoping to launch a new venture in Coldwater, Fiona sees the move as an opportunity to leave the past behind them. 　　In the series opener we meet Nancy Botwin, a recently widowed suburban soccer mom who's dealing pot to make ends meet; Nancy flips out when she discovers Josh, one of her competitors, is dealing to 10 year-olds at her youngest son's school, but she soon discovers a bigger skeleton in Josh's closet; Nancy is stunned when Quinn, her rival Celia's 15 year old daughter, asks her permission to have sex with her 15 year old son, Silas; Celia thinks her Nanny-Cam is the perfect solution to keep the kids celibate, but she ends up seeing much more than she bargained for.

　　去大公司面试成功的Jen（凯瑟琳·帕金森 Katherine Parkinson 饰）以为自己中了头彩，结果却被分配到了地下层的IT部门。部门里只有2个人，Moss（理查德·艾欧阿德 Richard Ayoade 饰）和Roy（克里斯·奥多德 Chris O'Dowd 饰），2个电脑方面的专家，生活常识类的怪人。对电脑一窍不通的Jen强装出一副精通的样子，惹出了不少笑话。
　　Jen和IT怪人二人组意外的很合拍，总会把一些本来很平常的事情，弄得一发不可收拾，让人哭笑不得。而公司的老板（克里斯多夫·莫利斯 Christopher Morris 饰）也会时不时的出现，和他们一起上演让人捧腹大笑的故事。别具一番风味的英式幽默故事在IT部门上演。
