May 1945: the end of the Second World War in the Tyrolean Alps. SS man Anton has deserted and been shot. On the run from his unit, he swaps his SS uniform for that of a dead Wehrmacht soldier and discovers a lonely mountain hut. Hannah, a Jewish woman, is hiding here. She takes Anton in and tends to his wounds. But there is great mistrust between the two. Together they cope with the harsh everyday life in the remote hut. They are looked after by 16-year-old peasant girl Charlotte, whose family pays Hannah not to betray them. And at night, they hear fighting between the German troops and Italian partisans. Over time, a cautious familiarity develops between Anton and Hannah - he, who has done terrible things in the war, she, who has lost her family and has been struggling with fear and loneliness up here in the mountains for months. They grow closer. Hannah finds out that Anton was no ordinary soldier. He was in the SS, a man of conviction, at least at first. Brutal truths come to light. The war is as good as over, but what kind of future awaits them? Georg turns up at the hut: He's been looking for Anton, hunting him down. He was the one who shot Anton - his best friend. 1927年，蒋介石背叛革命，一片白色恐怖弥漫在华夏大地上空。中国共产党于8月7日召开了紧急会议，委派毛泽东前往湖南组织秋收武装暴动。毛泽东决定成立工农革命军第一军第一师，并将暴动时间定为1927年9月9日。毛泽东和潘心源、陈志安走到张家坊，却被阎仲甫所设的哨卡拦住。几个团丁押着三人走在山路上，毛泽东巧施妙计得以脱身，三人来到铜鼓镇工农革命军第三团集结地。秋收起义终于打响了。工农革命军一路攻下多处要害后遭到敌人包围，因敌强我弱，部队损失惨重。毛泽东仔细思考局势，在会上指出敌我双方实力悬殊，我方应先站稳脚跟，保存实力。随后，毛泽东带领部队前往敌人统治力量最为薄弱的罗霄山脉，建立苏维埃政权。部队终于冲破敌人的围剿，毛泽东在几百名战士的簇拥下明确了拉着队伍上井冈的部署，坚定地表示必将打倒蒋介石。
In 1954 Vietnam, at the time of Diên Biên Phu, a French unit on patrol under the command of an inexperienced lieutenant is gradually depleted by Vietminh until only an ex-Wehrmacht Alsatian adjutant remains. He is to die, a title informs us, in Algeria in 1960. Semi-documentary in style, this is an effectively low-key appraisal of the difficult choices with which war confronts its soldiers. As so often in Vietnam films the enemy is only glimpsed from a distance, the camera remaining a disembodied observer among the group. Bertrand Tavernier acted as co-writer on the film.
